Haughhead Cottage Fushiebridge | Midlothian

The extension to the farmhouse is for 2 bedrooms, one of which is to be made fully accessible with a generous wetroom ensuite, all with ceiling hoists to help the family with a disabled family member. This project is challenging because we’re dealing not only with the local authorities but also with environmental health to obtain grants and there are certain procedures we need to follow. In this case, there was an added complexity where we applied for planning, building warrants and created the construction drawings pretty much in parallel to reduce the overall time span of the project (rather than following a more traditional linear path). The proposed architecture of the project is also fairly nice and takes its cues from the farmhouse, but with modern detailing, such as a fly-through timber-clad wall and some flat roof with nice hidden gutter detailing.
