Vermilion Dental are a private dental practice committed to providing the highest standards of patient care in a relaxing environment. CSY were commissioned by Vermilion to design their first new-build surgery in Kelso, Roxburghshire.
The brief was focussed on a desire to put the patient experience at the heart of the design as well meet all current clinical standards.
CSY developed a contemporary design that was modest in scale and complementary to the rural context. The project involved careful manipulation of the site contours and new landscaping to create a tranquil garden from which the patient could start their journey upon arrival.
The surgeries and reception area were designed around a central corridor, flooded with natural light from above, allowing them to open up to the surrounding garden and rural landscape beyond. The result is a series of light-filled, calming spaces which contribute to both patient and staff’s wellbeing.
Particular attention was given to the design of bespoke furniture, including seating and the reception desk, to enhance the patient experience and ensure that interaction between patients and staff was congenial and fully accessible.
CSY’s simple and robust design aided in the construction of the building envelope, allowing focus to be given to high-quality, internal finishes in both the clinical and public areas. The result is a welcoming and environmentally friendly surgery providing state–of–the–art facilities.
