After his undergraduate study, Xin enjoyed a few years away from architecture, which offered him a renewed perspective when he eventually returned. After joining CSY, he has developed a particular focus on residential design and community engagement projects.
Xin passionately believes good architecture should connect people and strengthen community.
In recent years, this passion has led to a special interest in community projects that are delivered by a participatory design and placemaking process – an approach that puts the citizen and engagement at the heart of the design project. In his work, he strives to foster a sense of community ownership and pride by creating buildings or public spaces that invite social connections and interactions and centring the community at the heart of the design process.
Xin is also taking an active role in the office in pursuing community engagement projects.
Outside of the office, Xin can often be found tinkering in his 3D printer workshop, i.e. garage, while valiantly trying to convince his wife and children, that the ‘objects’ he has made are not useless knickknacks, but stepping stones to his next great invention.
