Dalkeith, Galashiels or Berwick Upon Tweed (plus home-working)
Full time position. Salary £37,200. Eleven months initial contract.
An experienced BIM Coordinator is sought for the implementation of BIM systems within CSY Architects, in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University. The successful candidate will work with the whole team from one of the CSY Architects’ three offices in; Dalkeith, Galashiels and Berwick Upon Tweed. The role will involve the application of BIM systems across a wide range of sectors, including; high-quality domestic, affordable housing, commercial development, conservation and community-led projects.
CSY Architects is the new trading name of the three practices formerly known as Bain Swan, Douglas Strachan, and Camerons (est 1963). These were combined in 2020 to form an experienced and passionate team, which is “greater than the sum of its parts”. This team owns the majority of the practice through an Employee Ownership Trust, and this informs our collective ethos, which values people and places. Decisions about how the practice develops are made collectively by the team, who are also active members of the communities we serve. In-house expertise includes energy efficient and sustainable design, conservation, and helping both communities and businesses to facilitate and enable projects from an early stage.
Since merging, CSY has been reviewing and harmonising systems, and the team has been keen to embrace BIM (using Revit). As this is more common in larger practices and on larger projects, endeavouring to apply BIM in an SME context has also been of academic interest. For this reason, CSY has entered into a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Edinburgh Napier University. The first half of this two-year project included a comprehensive systems-review to determine how BIM could be applied in a proportionate and beneficial way. Following the adoption of some new software and processes, the second half will focus on the application of these systems to a wide range of projects.
As part of the partnership arrangement, the BIM Systems Coordinator will be employed Edinburgh Napier University for the remaining eleven months of the KTP project. Thereafter, CSY Architects anticipate that a permanent role will be established for the ongoing development and management of BIM systems.
