Spine House | Edinburgh
This bespoke house design embraces the challenges of a long and narrow site to create architectural interest.
The defining characteristic of the site is emphasised with the long “spine” device, which is used to organise the spaces and direct circulation.
The building form is then manipulated to retain a modest street presence, respect the neighbours’ privacy and protect views from the adjacent houses.
The form then changes along the spine, opening up at the rear for enjoyment of the views and connecting to the garden.
