Bowbank Housing Development
LOCATION: Eddleston, Scottish Borders
CLIENT: Eddleston Development Ltd.
Eddleston is within the Scottish Borders approximately 5 miles north of Peebles. The sloped site lies to the east of the Eddleston Conservation area, bordered by the church to the west, fields to the east and woodland and primary school to the south. The village is formed by the conservation area; made up of single and two storey stone and harling buildings with slate roofs and, newer housing developments formed of detached homes.
The client’s vision was to create unique and characterful detached homes that offered an alternative to the standard house builder style home.
The design uses the familiar vernacular form with pitched roofs over 1 and a half storeys which respects the scale of the village but offers a more contemporary look through materials and detailing. The material palette is kept minimal using white render, natural timber cladding and slate roofs. The plan incorporates a central generous double height living space sandwiched between bedroom accommodation over 2 levels either side.
